Military Health Service | Chik | Chikungunya | SNDS

This database-based study (SNDS) primarily aims to describe morbidity, mortality, and healthcare consumption over a period surrounding the CHIK epidemic (2010 to 2019) in the French Caribbean. A preliminary analysis was conducted on the EGB before performing a full analysis on the SNDS. The first phase with the EGB provided an overview of healthcare consumption variations and improved methodological performance to study the entire population of the French overseas departments during the 2010-2018 period. For the first time, health authorities will have reliable medico-economic data on the burden of a regional CHIK epidemic. Solid medico-economic data confirming the significant impact of CHIK epidemics will undoubtedly serve as a key tool to help national and international decision-makers make informed public health choices regarding prevention (vector control, vaccination) and crisis management during epidemic and post-epidemic periods.
